5-A-Day Strategies
Getting 5-a-day can seem a lot harder than it really is. Just have a bit of fun with it. Here are a few ideas….
Dip fruit in ice cream
Remind your kids that all their favourite superheroes eat only the best fruit and veg!
Get them involved in making what you want them to eat. Let them squish fruit and veggies in the juicer or blender and let them put toppings on their own pizzas etc.
Create a 5-a-day chart using their favourite TV characters in a race to 5. If they reach five by teatime they get a reward.
Be patient, encourage kids for trying new things even if they decide they don't like them. They might just decide they like the next one they try.
Eat at the same time as your kids. Show them that you are getting your 5-a-day and be their role model. After all if they think you don't like fruit and veg, why should they?
Draw a face on their plate by arranging the food. Kids always love it.
Add fruit to some of their fav's like jelly and ice cream (stick some fruit in the jelly before it sets).
Make ice lollies from juices and smoothies.
